With the recent publicity surrounding nudism in the UK perhaps its time to re-think our attitude towards naturist, nudist environments and our own self nudity outside of our normal comfort zones, particularly when going on holiday abroad.

The recent TV documentary ?Naked Britain? highlighted some of our insecurities when it came to public nudity, and showed that some other nations were streets ahead in the Naturist stakes.
So, as a budding nudist in the UK with a deep rooted fear of our naked bodies being exposed to ridicule, where do we start? Just how do we unshackle ourselves from Victorian style attitudes that have led us here?
The first thing to recognise is that, as has been already mentioned, some other nations are ahead of the game, particularly Spain, where virtually any beach is a nudist beach, depending on local reaction.
Before moving on lets ask the big question:- why go nude in public at all? - What is there to be gained?
When you put these questions to seasoned nudists, or naturists as they are also known, you get a surprising variety of answers.
Answers such as enjoying the feeling of freedom, feeling closer to nature, getting an all-over tan, the wonderful feeling of swimming naked, the fact that social nudity is a great leveller, oh'and its fun!
When you enquire whether they are concerned that their nudist opinions may be regarded as a bit abnormal, their answer is surprising in that there is a genuine belief amongst some naturists, that the clothed specimens, (or textiles, as they are know amongst nudists) are the ones that cannot be normal as they are missing out on so much!
Okay, I'm convinced, now how and where do I start the transition from a normal(sorry!) person to a proper, qualified nudist?
Here are some tips?
Try to make your first time on a designated nudist beach abroad. ?Designated?, because you don't want the local authorities locking you up for indecent exposure due to a language barrier, and 'abroad? because there is less chance of you bumping into someone you know, (even though they will probably be nude as well) and the fact that you are more likely to relax under some decent sunshine in a holiday atmosphere.
Cover yourself in high factor sun block, the last thing you want is this virgin experience to be ruined by sun burn on those newly exposed bits and pieces.
Take a book, it'll stop you thinking about yourself, and give you an excuse to avert your gaze from you fellow nude sunbathers.
Take a mate! Providing that you are very comfortable with this person, it could turn this new experience into a bit of a laugh, and shake off any nerves that may have accrued.
Talk to the other nudists on the beach, ask them how they felt on the first time they stripped off in public'you can be sure that some of their experiences will mirror your own!
Don't just be a holiday nudist! When you return to the UK, phone your nearest naturist club, and ask to make a pre-joining visit of their premises if possible. Explain that you are new to nudism, and you'll find that they will be understanding, and if they are seeking new members, will show you around the grounds.
The club will probably have a heated swimming pool, and you'll enjoy some great summer weekends with new found friends, an all over tan, and a sense of deep relaxation.
